I'm shopping around for a new virtual server and I'm seeing the mention 'SATA' a lot. What is it? What does it mean?
Thanks for any help. |

Hello Britton and welcome to the forum
SATA Serial is a computer bus technology primarily designed for the transfer of data to and from a hard disk.
It is the successor to the legacy AT Attachment standard (ATA).
This older technology was retroactively renamed Parallel ATA (PATA) to distinguish it from Serial ATA.
Both SATA and PATA are IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) drives, although IDE is often misused to indicate PATA drives.
Older IDE drives would transfer about 133 Megs a second. The newer SATA drives are capable of transferring approx. 150 Megs a second instead.
You can check the price of great virtual servers on this link:

Hope that helps
